I just finished reading an article from Land Line about drivers seeking second opinions on their check ups from DOT certified examiners.
About the Article
It was a very interesting read so I’ll just give the gist of it.
In the article, they say how drivers can go to different doctors and seek a second opinion however, they should give both doctors their full history.
However, one driver went to a doctor who falsified some of his information in an attempt to get him to take a test for Sleep Apnea, which seems to be a problem.
The driver had given this doctor a note from his primary physician which stated he did not have Sleep Apnea, however, the doctor still wanted to test him.
It seems there are several cases where drivers are being tested for certain diseases based solely on the fact that they are truck drivers, and disregarding information provided by past doctors.
Do Doctors Cheat?
I believe the bottom line of this article is that doctors could be trying to test patients in the trucking industry to obtain more income (the more tests they do the more money they get).
However, there are also those who would write the note saying it is not this condition because if a truck driver has sleep apnea they would not be able to perform at their job, causing income to be reduced.
What do you think, have doctors used their power to get more money in the long run?
Do you know doctors who would say you are okay when you should be tested?
Have you had experience with tests you felt were unnecessary?
